Privacy Policy

This document describes what OrderInsider actually collects and holds. It has not been reviewed by an attorney and is not legal advice.

Diners

You can search OrderInsider without an account and we do not ask you for your name, email, or phone number. We do log what was searched for — the words typed, how many results came back, and which result was opened or tapped — so we can improve search and tell restaurants what people in Charlotte are looking for. That log contains search terms and outcomes, not identifiers for you. Where OrderInsider lets you react to or comment on a dish, we store what you submit along with a device-level identifier used to prevent duplicate voting, and any display name you choose to add. We also keep standard server logs.

Review data

Dish ratings are built from restaurant reviews that were published publicly on the internet, including the reviewer’s public display name, star rating, review text, and date. We hold a copy of that material in order to determine which reviews name which dish and to produce the ratings and summaries you see. We use it for that purpose only. We do not sell it, we do not build profiles of reviewers, and we do not attempt to contact reviewers or identify them beyond the display name they published.

If you wrote a review and would rather it not be held here, email hello@theorderinsider.com with enough detail to find it and we will delete our copy. You do not need an account and you do not need to explain why.

Restaurants

For restaurants we hold: the listing itself (name, address, menu, and related details); consent records — the name, email, and role of the person who chose a listing option, the date, the version of the terms they accepted, and the IP address and browser the acceptance came from, kept as evidence the agreement happened; account email and password for anyone who signs in; and, for subscribers, billing details handled by Stripe. We never see or store full card numbers.

Service providers

We share information only with the providers that run OrderInsider: Supabase (database and hosting), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Outscraper (the vendor we obtain public review data from), and Anthropic, whose models we use to match reviews to dishes and to draft dish summaries — which means review text is sent to that provider for processing. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Retention

Listings and review data are kept while a restaurant is listed and for a reasonable period after, so ratings and history remain consistent. Search logs are kept in aggregate for reporting. Consent records are kept indefinitely, including records of restaurants that asked to be removed — deleting a removal record would risk that restaurant being re-listed by mistake, which is the opposite of what they asked for. Account data is deleted when an account is deleted.

Your choices

Anyone may ask what we hold about them, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by emailing hello@theorderinsider.com. That includes review authors, restaurant staff, and diners who left a comment. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under state privacy law, including the right to know what is collected and to request deletion; we apply the same process to everyone who asks. Restaurants can have a listing removed at any time under Section 5 of the Terms.

Security & children

We use reputable providers and reasonable safeguards, though no system is perfectly secure. OrderInsider is a general-audience restaurant service and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
